Open Federation Standards – Personal Clouds for Personal Healthcare

Earlier this week the Canadian Government announced $67 million in funding for ‘personalized medicine’.

A big part of the challenge will be technology – Even for standard healthcare there is still slow progress in key areas like adoption of the basics like EMR.

Cloud will play a big part in helping address this, not just in terms of making the software more accessible, but also in terms of innovating the core concepts of how e-health is achieved. For example “Personal Cloud EMR” is a natural match for enabling personalized healthcare.

Also critically important are technical standards. These are the means by which patient record data is exchanged between different systems, and in Canada this is specified by organizations like Health Infoway, with implementation best practices then at a regional level by folks like E-Health Ontario.

After meeting with E-Health Ontario recently to collaborate on building more local Canadian Cloud innovations we launched our related EHealth Canada cloud best practices program, available at EHealthCanada.info.
